Every effective DIY program is the same sequence. Spraying first is how people make infestations worse.
- Identify the pest and the hot spots (droppings, trails, grease marks, egg cases).
- Starve them — food, water, clutter.
- Seal entry points so new pests cannot replace the ones you kill.
- Treat with slow-acting bait or correctly placed traps — not fogger bombs.

How to get rid of mice in one day
House mice squeeze through a gap the size of a dime (~6 mm). If you only set traps and never seal, you are running a mouse hotel.
Morning: find and close the highway
Walk the kitchen, pantry, garage, and utility room. Look for:
- Rice-sized dark droppings
- Gnawed boxes and wiring
- Greasy rub marks along baseboards
- Gaps around pipes, dryer vents, garage doors, and under sinks
Stuff steel wool (or copper mesh) into every gap, then cover it with silicone caulk or expanding foam. Mice will not chew through steel wool. Add door sweeps on exterior doors.
Same day: set traps where mice actually walk
Snap traps still outperform most “humane” catch-and-release gadgets for speed and reliability. Place them perpendicular to the wall, trigger against the baseboard — mice travel with their whiskers on the wall.
Do this today:
- Buy 8–12 snap traps (Tomcat Press ’N Set style is easy to set without snapping your fingers).
- Bait with a pea-sized smear of peanut butter. Tie a small nut on if they steal the bait.
- Space traps every 2–3 meters along walls, behind the stove, and in the pantry.
- Wear gloves when handling traps and droppings. Do not sweep dry droppings — dampen first (hantavirus risk is low for house mice in many regions, but don’t gamble).
Poison bait stations work for heavy outdoor pressure, but indoors they create odor problems if mice die in walls. Traps first.
Tonight’s win: one or more captures. This week’s win: no new droppings after holes are sealed.
How to get rid of cockroaches in one day
German cockroaches (Blattella germanica) are the kitchen species that explode in apartments. If you see one in daylight, there are more in the hinges, motor cavities, and wall voids.
Signs: pepper-like droppings in cabinet corners, shed skins, a musty smell, egg cases (oothecae).
